How to buy a kayak
How I did it: Ever since I took a class on kayaking a few years ago I decided that I had to get my own. They're quite pricey though, so I kept my eyes open for good deals on used boats.
I basically just kept checking craigslist all the time. About a month or so ago, I found a fantastic package, for a ridiculously low price, but I tried to haggle, and the seller gave it to someone else. Then a bit later, another boat at another fantastic price came up and this time I was on it! I've even tried her out already, and it was so much fun!
(picture is not of the kayak I bought; it's from a paddle I took while on vacation in Florida)
Lessons & tips: If you're looking for a used boat, check craigslist! But be ready; if someone posts a good deal, it goes quickly, so check back often!
Also, if you're going to haggle on price, make sure the seller knows to give you a counter-offer or let you know if they're firm on the price; I lost a fantastic opportunity because I asked if they would take a lower price, but didn't make it clear they should get back to me either way (I was totally willing to pay full price, but you never know if you can get it lowered unless you ask!) and the seller sold the boat to someone else. I was heartbroken!
