How to see a gynecologist
How I did it: My family never really discussed sex and gynecological health. My friends either don't talk about it, can't afford it or won't go for other reasons.
I wanted to make sure everything was okay, so I finally went today. Everyone was really nice, from the receptionists to the medical assistants to the doctor herself.
The doctor gave me a quick run down about why women should see a ob/gyn (most of which I knew from research, education and what not), but it was still nice that she talked me through everything.
The exam itself was a little uncomfortable, but again it helped that the doctor told me everything she did step by step and let me know what she saw and when to expect discomfort. Unfortunately I don't think the discomfort was unavoidable but it helps to BREATHE and to just relax.
I also got a chance to talk any concerns I had and had a blood test done.
Lessons & tips: If you're looking for a doctor, I would suggest Yelp. While they
obviously don't have every doctor in the book, it's a useful tool for
good and bad experiences. I also suggest you make appointments on
Fridays when business, traffic, etc. tend to be less and things tend to
be more chill. Avoid Mondays since they can be kinda hectic.
Don't stress out! It's important to be educated about your choices and options as well as the health of your body.

Planned Parenthood also does ob/gyn examinations I believe.
