How to hike across the Grand Canyon
"The rim-to-rim hike gives you opportunities to experience the best parts of the canyon without constantly bumping into tourists."
How I did it: I didn't do a lot of training for this, but was in good shape from cycling and previous backpacking trips. Four days let us finish our required hiking before noon and left plenty of time for side hikes and resting. I also packed light (dry weight was under 15 lbs including pack).
North Rim - Cottonwood - Bright Angel - Indian Garden - South Rim
Lessons & tips: 1. Pack Light
2. Bring Water Purification Means (pipes can burst)
3. Hike Early Morning (5 to noon)
4. Save Time for Lounging at Colorado River
5. Save Time and Energy for Day Hikes (Roaring Springs, Ribbon Falls, and Plateau Point are all well worth the hike)
