How to get a meaningful tattoo
How I did it: I designed my tattoo myself after a lot of thought. Then I went with friends to a place I trusted. I was very nervous but I liked my artist. I got a good feeling from him and felt that I could trust him to do a good job. He placed it slightly differently than I had wanted, but he explained to me that if he put it where I wanted it it wouldn't "sit" right. We decided on a better, flatter, place to put it. After a bit of hyperventilating my friend crouched down to hold my hand while another friend of mine took pictures of the action! It hurt a bit at first, but half way through I was giggling and trying hard not to move! It is very addicting. After we left I decided I want another one right away, after this one heals!
Lessons & tips: Take your time. Design it yourself. Be original. Only take people with you that are supportive and who you don't mind associating your tattoo with, because you will. Be prepared to get addicted!
Resources: References from friends. I got a good feeling from my tattoo artist.
