"Forced me to be conscious about what was leaving my wallet"
How I did it: I only let myself have 40$ cash out of my bank account to spend from paycheck to paycheck. I took this measure to counterbalance the slightly excessive spending I had been going through for the month. I wanted to be able to pay down my credit card.
Lessons & tips: One example of how this opened my eyes was when I was picking up my regular lemons at 3/1$. I noticed that they weren't very ripe first of all. In addition, the limes that were sitting right next to them: 1) were ripe 2) were 5/1$ Normally I'd have just shrugged off the difference and told myself that I deserved the lemons and that it wasn't THAT big a difference. When you're trying to limit your grocery spending, it's a bigger difference.
Resources: Akhavan and their cheap fruits, veggies, cheeses and nuts.
The maple syrup / fruit stand next to work, that let me have delicious peaches instead of my usual Timmies snack.
