How to henna my hair
How I did it: I ordered henna from Mehandi.com, to ensure that I had 100% pure BAQ [body art quality] henna. Instead of doing a full-head application, I made a henna gloss by mixing henna paste with conditioner, half-and-half. I mixed the henna paste with lemon juice, and let it sit in a warm spot for 5 hours. I left the mixture in for 40 minutes, and then rinsed out in the shower. It came out clean, no fuss or need for multiple shampoos. At first it was coppery bright, but oxidized over a few days to a deeper red. Fabulous!
Lessons & tips: Don't settle for cheap boxed hennas - they can be unruly and unpredictable. Use a 100% pure henna, like the kind offered at Mehandi.com.
Resources: Catherine Cartwright-Jones' website, hennaforhair.com, was a huge help.
