How to learn fire poi

"The fire is really loud, but it makes it more exhilarating then I thought it was going to be."
How I did it: I got practice poi and had my friends who all already could spin fire teach me until they were confident I would do just fine with fire. Then they gave me their fire poi to practice with unlit until I was comfortable with the added weight of the wicks. Then they had me do my simple tricks while lit until I felt more comfortable with it. I'm hoping to give a mini performance at one of our bonfires sometime soon.
Lessons & tips: make sure you are fully confident with your practice poi before you think about lighting it
