How I did it: My boyfriend has a Sears card and we got a discount for using it. I went with a Kenmore stainless steel mid-grade model. Because I will eventually remodel the entire kitchen, I felt like this was a good choice and I can match the kitchen appliances later to this particular model/brand.

I have shopped around before and knew I wanted to spend about $400. I had my contractor do the install for less than Sears charges, but I did get Sears to haul away the old one. The only catch was that my contractor had to uninstall the old one first for quick carting away.

Lessons & tips: BTW, teflon pipe tape is your friend. A mysterious leak was solved by using it.
