How to go on a road trip with no predetermined destination
How I did it: Well, I went to the bank and got 3 bundles of 100 $1 dollar bills... one for each kid. I told them we were going on a trip, but different from our usual trips because they were going to navigate and pay. We started out and they voted left, right, or straight for intersections. When hungry, we'd stop somewhere and pick up brochures and read them while we waited for our food. We went to several attractions and the kids paid. At night, they'd say when and I'd call the hotel 1-800 numbers to see where the best for the least local place was, we'd go there, pick up brochures for ideas and sleep (mommy paid for the hotels). We did this 3 days and 2 nights, the third night, I consulted the map and drove us back home.
Lessons & tips: Take a credit card "in case" something goes wrong. Make sure you have ground rules if it's a family thing. (e.g. if each stop the kids split 3 ways or if each on pays for an entire activity/meal, the TYPES of activities that are allowed, if it's by vote or the kids take turns picking) We went by vote, and the kids split expenses 3 ways.
