It made me
Vrooooom. 
"I had the money... I didn't have ideal credit ... I made a new [master] plan and readjusted my goals."
How I did it: First, I focused. I narrowed down my wants, compared them to my needs and then compared them to my accessibility.
I was realistic, did a lot of my own footwork instead of waiting for dealerships to dictate my options and wound up getting what I wanted.
It helps to have money saved, a steady and secure job, and the wherewithall to budget years in advance.
