How to get a blood test
How I did it: I've put this test off for three months because I hate needles but finally, I was home sick from work, and so was around for clinic opening hours. Plus, unintentionally, I had not eaten since the afternoon before, so I thought, why not? Just go.
I sat there with the ticket - number 61 - watching the calling screen beeping closer and closer to my number, so nervous. The nurse's door was open and I could see her taking people's blood. It didn't seem that bad. There were no twitching arms or screaming anyway. When it was my turn, it took three attempts to draw blood - I have tiny veins apparently and they don't seem to like giving up the red stuff - and it did hurt a little but the nurse saw it was painful and switched to a finer needle. Then it didn't hurt at all. I bought cake as a reward.
Lessons & tips: Just do it. Remember it won't last long, even if for some reason it does hurt, and you're dealing with professionals; they've chosen that job to help heal people, not hurt them. That was my mantra.
