How to make a sock monkey
How I did it: I found some nice socks, got some sexy-exciting buttons, an old sewing machine and went crazygonuts, following the tutorial here: http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1104
Essentially, you're splitting half of one sock into legs and a torso, and the second sock becomes the arms/ears/tail/mouth which are attached to the stuffed first sock. Its all laid out in the linked tutorial.
I will upload photos when possible! :D
Lessons & tips: The first monkey I made somehow ended up with wiggly, pencil thin spaghetti arms, so the second (and less demented) monkey has to make do without ears since I dedicated extra fabric to make some nice, buff arms. If anyone can figure out what the hell happened, it would be very nice thing to let me know. :)
The stretchy material was tricky to work with, especially given this was my very first experience with sewing since year 8 textiles. Though I have to say that hand sewing the arms/muzzle/tail/ears was the most frustrating aspect. It gets better with practise, and a lot of patience.
