How to declutter
How I did it: In preparation for a huge party my family was hosting, I decided to take it upon myself to "tidy up" and redecorate my room with some new sheets. Having to go through the process of first getting (mountains of) clutter off my bed finally gave me the impetus to get my act together. A bedroom is supposed to be a haven where one can relax, de-stress, and sleep well at night. I did none of these things in my room. I always used the excuse that my "room is just too big" or "I like organized chaos." Ha. Right.
I started small, and maybe did an hour of cleaning every night after work or during the time that I would normally be vegging in front of the tv. As my room started to emerge under the clutter, I began to do more, and started to feel less and less guilty for throwing away things I didn't need (I'm a hoarder).
I invested some money in redecorating with a storage/display cabinet, cool wooden hangers for my clothes, new drapes, etc. I didn't spend too much money to come up with a more sophisticated room that still has my distinct personality.
Lessons & tips: Don't be afraid to throw away useless junk! Ask yourself this- since the last time you decluttered, did you ever look for this? If you never missed it in months (or years), then you won't miss it...ever.
