"I'm moving!"
How I did it: We are moving cross country, so we have all gotten rid of "stuff". I just asked myself "is this worth moving cross country AGAIN?"
My youngest daughter gave a good bit of her toys to goodwill, and she will have a cleaner room in our new home. I'm very proud of her-it's not easy to give up toys when your 9.
I finally gave up several pair of old jeans that haven't fit in years. And I had alot of clothes that I just never wore, so I let them go too. I have moved them from state to state for no reason! WHY?
I am hopeful that this "clear out mode" will wear off onto hubby....but no luck with that yet.
Lessons & tips: Set up a box for things to go to goodwill or some other donation place.
Set up a box for "hmmm, let me think about it" stuff. You can sort through it every week to see if you decide to get rid of anything.
Make up a TRASH box of stuff no one else could ever use.
And finally, use up little dabs of bath products and lotions and make up. I find that I collect the almost empty bottles. Set a deadline of when you have to throw it out, and try to use it all up before then. My youngest and I have been using up bottles of hotel lotions in our bathes, and almost empty bath oils, hotel shampoo, etc. for a month now.
Resources: I dumped all my bath products into one plastic basket, put it beside the tub to remind me to use it! I put a small trash can right beside the tub also, to toss out the empty bottles.
I went through my closet very quickly, and tried not to think too much about what I was doing. I just said "toss, keep, toss, keep". If it was something I haven't used in a year, I didn't even consider keeping it. And for my "hmmm, maybe" pile, I went through it and thought "how do I feel when I wear this?" That made cleaning out alot easier!!
