How to buy a House
"Traumatic."
How I did it: With great difficulty.
The seller was a nightmare. The solicitor were an even bigger nightmare. The bank managed to balls up the transaction and moving day was beset with problems. The following days after moving in have had even more problems that I'm still trying to sort out.
I'm sure it'll be worth it in the long run, but short term it's been a very, very stressful experience.
Lessons & tips: Get a decent solicitor/conveyancer. Seriously. Don't just pick one at random like I did. Actually do a bit of homework and find a reputable one who is proactive and willing to investigate any potential problems.
Get paperwork sent to you as early possible, so you can read it and raise any issues as early as you can.
Don't rely on *anyone*! If someone says that they've done something - try and double check that they actually have or provide you proof!! Take nothing for granted.
