good for you, it feels good to make your dreams come true.
How I did it: I jumped at the opportunity to take a temporary work detail in Alaska, and a year later when a job vacancy became available, I applied. Because several people were already familiar (and happy!) with my work, they hired me. Almost two years after I first entertained the notion, we packed everything and moved 2,000 miles to follow our dreams.
Lessons & tips: Moving somewhere is something anyone can do. But it isn't easy. The internet is an invaluable resource for researching moving costs, real estate, day care costs, job prospects, and much more. Also, I would recommend having an emergency fund saved up prior to moving... there are all sorts of unforeseen costs that you'd rather not put on plastic (especially in today's economy).
Resources: I found my house on Yahoo Real Estate... but I used every local real estate website available. Get on Flickr to check out photos and meet people who live where you want to move...
