How to become a pesco-vegetarian
How I did it: I originally intended to become a total vegetarian. This was a daunting feat for someone who used to eat meat with every meal. But with so many hormones in most of the meat, and the only healthy, ethical stuff becoming so expensive, I really felt this was the only good alternative.
Anyway, I went vegetarian for a few months, tried to become vegan, and then felt like I was missing nutrients. As I am also getting used to hormones, I didn't want to deal with too many changes at once.
After the months of vegetarian diet, adding fish was absolutely wonderful!
Lessons & tips: Don't get mad at yourself if you screw up. Plan to screw up, instead of hoping you won't do it. Because you will. Holding yourself to too strict a standard will only encourage you to totally give up if you make mistakes.
Also, utilize veggie products. I missed bacon the most until I found out Morningstar had a very delicious bacon that was far lower in calories, and wasn't as greasy, yet had a really tasty flavor.
If you are also eating a gluten free diet, your selection will be quite limited. I tried gluten free for this for awhile, but finances became too tight to continue it. There are some veggie burgers that have no gluten (They are made of blackbeans), and a few other items. If you're eating fish as well, then this should be much easier than going totally vegetarian.
