How to do the Couch to 5k running plan
How I did it: I was a person who loved sport at school but ws suddenly ten years out of school and hadn't exercised in as many years. I mean, I got out of breath climbing the stairs. So enough was enough, I just thought I would give it a go and all of a sudden I found myself, actually ...gasp, enjoying the exercise. The great thing is that as it is such a gentle program, you sneakily trick your body into achieivng things you never thought possible. Just give it a go for a couple of sessions and you will be suprised by how not-horrible it is. I gained the following:
1. more confidence
2. handled stress and anxiety better
3. slept better
4. lost weight
5. more energy during the day.
Lessons & tips: I wear a cheap sports watch I bought on ebay to help me count the times, and always, always, always took my ipod. The best part is listening to the motivating songs you put on your playlist.
Resources: Having good songs on your ipod is huge. I was all about Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga and anyting which makes you feel empowered. Apparently there are apps now where you can listen to your own songs while the couch to 5k plays in the background and tells you when to run andf walk. I haven't tried it but it sounds pretty clever.
