How to move across the country
How I did it: Rented a Uhaul (our car actually got rear-ended while we went to pick it up -- adding to our stress), loaded it ourselves (with some much-appreciated help from our church's missionaries -- love those guys), towed our car behind, stuck the kid in the front with us (airbag was turned off), and drove, drove, drove....
Lessons & tips: Tips: make sure you have lots of clean bottles for the baby, and lots of things to occupy her when she's not sleeping... Or better yet, do it when you don't have super-young-'uns. Get lots of people to help with packing and loading the truck. We had almost no one and it was very, very tough.
Resources: Our church's missionaries were wonderful for helping us move some boxes last-minute, and all the big pieces of furniture. Those guys are great. Uhaul was pretty good, too; they gave us a good deal (they *will* match other moving companies; if they say they don't, call back and talk to someone else) and the truck was pretty clean. Keep in mind that the truck is NOT water-proof (it's "water resistant"), so some things have the potential to get wet, and they will not reimburse you... We had a wet box or two, and some water damage on a (fortunately very cheap) desk.
