How to be a travel show host by gregkeaney

How I did it: I live in Brunei which has a demand for English language education. I submitted a pilot program for an English teaching and learning program about one year ago and it was accepted by the studio and one of the local television stations.

I also worked as an internet radio DJ to improve my talking skills in front of cameras and mikes.

Now that the studio knows that I am a good hassle free presenter moving into the direction I want to go ie travel shows was not too difficult. It's not Hollywood but it is very satisfying to be able to do broadcasting work in a field that I have always loved and to promote the many wonderful attractions of Brunei and Borneo to the world. 

Lessons & tips: Always happy to share ideas and the few tips that I have picked up from my broadcasting experiences. Anyone new to camera work should note that eye movements away from the camera look terrible and that an ability to ad lib and seize the moment are vital in outdoor productions.

Resources: Everywhere is travel to someone - those who want to do travel shows should start thinking about promoting where they live now. It is important to be very well informed - even if you don't say everything on camera it is terrible if you are filmed making an obvious mistake

well, in my very little experience, i have learnt firstly, that the eye movements depend on the kind of program you are filming, for instance if your show is a regular talk show/news feature then eye movements away from the camera would be risky as the audience/camera is your witness, audience would feel uninvolved in your discussion if eyes are constantly moving in a direction that has no visual detail, but if you are filming for a documentary then eyes set on the camera would be monotonous and the set is your witness not the camera/audience. Secondly, it is also very important for the anchor not to become a talkinghead, who keeps on talking talking like a radio DJ giving so much information that it becomes impossible for the viewer/listener to grasp.
