How I did it: We were preparing to move and doing a major clean-out. We decided to get rid of all of our TVs. I don't miss it. I don't miss the biased media feeding my head with gloom and doom and misinformation (that right now belongs exclusively to the internet) and endless insanely inane advertising.
After the writers strike it seemed the networks figured out they could just start re-running the snot out of shows. Nothing new and good and more crappy "reality".
It is easier than you think...
Lessons & tips: If you have shows you like, you don't have to give them up. Most can be found for free streaming on the internet. We keep up with the few shows we enjoy that way.
