How to make my own laundry detergent

"Making my own detergent was inexpensive, simple, and did NOT make my clothes smell strange."
How I did it: The most difficult part of making my own laundry detergent was obtaining the washing soda. I learned that some Kroger stores still carry it.
I used this formula:
1 bar Ivory soap, grated
1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Washing soda
1/2 cup 40 Mule Team borax
Use one tablespoon per regular load.
Don't forget to use your homemade fabric softener, too! Just pour 1/2 cup white vinegar in the rinse cycle.
