How I did it: I eat well generally but I wanted to make sure I was getting the minimum 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. I included fruit/veg with meals. I always have a glass of orange juice in the morning (1 portion). I had fruit/veg (typically banana, baked beans, tomato - each 1 portion) with bread for lunch regularly. Recently for dinner I've been eating lots of mixed fruit/veg including salad, broccoli, carrots, mash potato to name but a few (ranging from 2 to 5 portions depending on how much i eat). Usually some time after dinner I have some fruit, typically an apple (1 portion) and 2satsumas (1 portion).
Lessons & tips: For breakfast have fruit and a glass of orange juice. Maybe banana on toast.
Lunch, simply baked beans on toast, tomato or vegetable soup. Takeaway salads and sandwiches.
Dinner, recently I am having a salad of mixed veg (chopped celery, onions and cucumber; grated carrot, cherry tomatoes, lettuce with a tablespoon (serving 1 person) of olive oil and balsamic vinegar). It is very appetising and healthy, try it!
Other suggestions, mash potato, sweetcorn, peas, kidney beans etc. as sides with cooked meat/soup. Pasta/rice with a tomato sauce with various chopped veg.
