How I did it: I started off running for 10 minutes, then each time I ran after that, I'd add 1 minute to the run. By accomplishing each run, I knew in my head that my body was capable of at least running the previous time, and jogging for 60 seconds more wouldn't be too hard.
Lessons & tips: Set for yourself small achievable goals and then build upon it.
Resources: runstoppable.com helped me keep track of my distance and time, it also calculated my pace. It's really great because it's linked to google maps and if you have an RSS feed setup, you can have it send your run entries so that you and others can keep track of your progress.
