"Teaching myself was ok...but getting lessons was awesome!"
How I did it: At first I tried to teach myself out of Sylvia Woods' book. I made a bit of progress, but stalled. Then, though, my mother gave me a few months of harp lessons with a local teacher for my birthday, and that went awesomely. I progressed so much faster! I'm not great or even good; I'm still a beginner for sure. But, the point is, I know how to play, and it's just a matter of getting better from here!
Lessons & tips: Find a teacher. Spring for some lessons. Even if it's only two months worth, three months worth, take what you can get. It'll give you a good foundation to build on.
