How to participate in the 48-hour short film competition
"If you want an opportunity to see what it's like to create a film, do the 48-hour short film competition! "
How I did it: I was lucky to have met a few friends who are involved in this. I would ENCOURAGE all to make sure you build a team that is committed and willing to devote the entire 48-hours towards the movie.
We created a team three weeks prior to the film competition, and even had a dry run 2 weeks prior to the date. We drew film noir and create a hilarious 7-minute short now available on Youtube.
Lessons & tips:
- Build a committed team that consists of an: (2) set directors, (1) director of photography, (1) Sound Specialist, (1) light specialist, and (2) Post Editors, and a handful of devoted actors/actresses.
- Make sure you have a dry run rehearsal with a random script available online or perhaps a friend could write for you. This will help you test the team you have in place, and get all the technicalities and potential team issues that could arise.
- Make a timeline/schedule that will outline the completion of the project. This will keep you on TARGET!
- No night shoots - they are just not condusive.
- Keep it SIMPLE! If this is your first film, you have to realize that you only have 48 hours to write, storyboard, shoot, and edit your film. The script should be your strongest piece - and the rest should be streamlined.
