How to become a vegan
How I did it: My 11 year old sister, Spug, is THE biggest hippie I know. I went to completely organic foods last summer to avoid ingesting chemicals, but she had convinced me to go vegetarian almost a month ago, so I started researching the idea and recipes for us. The more I read.. the more I was disgusted by the things I was eating. I realized how terrible animal cruelty is and how much healthier the Vegan lifestyle would be for me. I have vowed to eat NOTHING from animals in any way, shape, fashion or form. I have to admit... I've NEVER felt better. I have so much more energy than ever before. I'm not full after meals, thus feeling weighed down and tired. I don't crave junk food or meat. And I've discovered all the amazing fruits and veggies that we are missing out on! Did you know that eating one pound of meat is equivalent to driving an SUV 40 miles?! The single most important thing we can do to save the planet is not eat meat... What are we waiting on?!
Lessons & tips: Do adaquate research and make certain you do this when you are READY. Otherwise, you will most likely get frustrated and give in to meat. If you like the texture of meat in meals, try Tofu, Tempeh, Soy Burgers... all can be found at any organic market i.e. WholeFoods. I do all my shopping on the beach at For the Health of It.
