How to go to bed earlier
"I'm a night owl but getting up in the morning to run helped me be tired enough at night to sleep well.""
How I did it: I had a tendency to stay up ALL night, especially since I set my own hours. But it made me drowsy during the day.
A few things helped:
1) Exercise -- running in the morning made me tired at night.
2) Avoiding caffeine past noon -- otherwise I was wired.
3) Taking Melatonin supplements -- they help you naturally make the things your body needs to make in order to fall alseep. Doesn't work for everyone -- didn't work for my friend. But works great for me.
4) Writing in a journal before bed -- my mind races otherwise! I like to write to-do lists and a bit about what happened that day.
Though I sometimes still stay up later just for fun, I can now sleep pretty much whenever i want.
Lessons & tips: Running in the morning became a fun thing for me. I got an ipod and put fun workout songs on it. Then I would feel more balanced during the day and was relaxed and sleepy at a normal bedtime.
