How to run a 10K race
How I did it: I've always wanted to run a 10k, but I was always the kind that runs for fitness, never competitively. This year though, spurred by a colleague who had done a marathon, I signed up for a 10k. And I went running 4 days a week, with the other 2 days doing kickboxing and swimming. Only for 2 weeks though, and the last training I had I was only able to run 4km!
Lessons & tips: Running is 80% mental - you just have to tell yourself to push forward and cross the finish line. Also, the first few kms were the hardest, you just feel like stopping. When that happened to me, I will allow myself to slow down but never to a walk. I avoided looking down at the road and concentrated on my breathing. Or else, I try to think about something's that bothering me and I'll forget about running as I try to work the problem out.
