How I did it: For me being Black and in the "innner-city" having a an interest in firearms was really not look down on as it is today.

I got my training via the NDCC Cadet Corp which was mandatory for all male high schoolers in the DC Public Schools that the time; not the shooting but marching and drilling with real rifles.

The Rifle-Team was voluntary extracorricullar activity. I started with .22-cal rifles and with Senior ROTC, NRA and Civil Air Patrol training got more proficient in my shooting skills. It can be done and in a positive way.

Lessons & tips: There are various shooting organizations that will gladly assist you in learning how to shoot. Check with them.
