How to learn to play guitar
How I did it: i knew i wanted to learn after hearing AC/DC's T.N.T, that song just made my body tingle, and i knew that i wanted to play the electric guitar. The first couple of months were ropey, and i picked it up on and off, but the main thing you HAVE to get in your mind is that its just perseverance. There will be times when you just want to throw your guitar out your window, but don't. Once you break that barrier after a few months, you will get in your stride and i am not a fan of all this shred stuff. Only you can tell yourself how good or bad you are, and the truth is, you will never end learning as you learn new things everyday. I learnt a lot of riffs at first and i found this easier than diving into the loborious chords! If anyone needs any help with anything, just drop me a comment!
Lessons & tips:
- Learn riffs to start with, it will keep you intrested and strengthen your fingers.
- Play a lot and don't give up!
- Start a phrase slowly and speed up if your finding a certain song difficult to learn
- Power chords are the basis of most rock riffs, so make sure you look them up.
- Love every minute of it!
Resources:
- 'Total Guitar' magazine is the best british guitar magazine. Full of tab and lessons
- Cheap guitars are the best to start with, because it doesn't matter i you wreck it.
- Fret Play is a good tab site, but be weary of wrongly tabbed songs.
