How to beat my depression
How I did it: I always had a feeling that my depression wasn't a result of any internal mental issue. It took me 12 years to find "perfect" cure and it was rough time.
In my case it seems that I have what is called leaky gut: certain foods contain stuff that is not supposed to enter blood stream, but my gut leaks that stuff and the end result is constant stress to my body.
The cure was paleo diet: no grain, dairy, potatoes, rice and bunch of other foods that contain possibly harmful stuff.
Leaky gut is a bit controversial medical subject, but there is already some good research and it's entering mainstream knowledge bit by bit. The basic idea seems to be that because of some stress event body needs more than is available some stuff that is needed by both brain and gut. Brain is more important, so it gets what's available. Gut won't get enough and starts to leak. This causes more stress and the situation gets worse. The resulting stress causes adrenal glands to work too hard resulting in adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism related symptoms. At the same time the leaking stuff can cause all sorts of symptoms (anxiety, brain fog, tinnitus, acne, ...).
To correct the situation the gut must be healed. This is done by eliminating stress (as much as possible), eliminating foods that have "bad stuff" and taking supplements (zinc, NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine), probiotics) that help gut heal.
Lessons & tips: Just make an experiment:
- Start eating gluten and grain free diet
- Don't consume anything with dairy (not even just milk protein or other parts of milk)
- Eat lots of vegetables and fruits (eat these instead of potatoes, rice etc. high carbohydrate foods)
- Eat also low GI foods (drop out potatoes, rice etc. high carbohydrate foods)
- Don't consume coffee, tea or other stuff with caffeine
Do you feel better after 2-3 weeks?
While doing the experiment:
- Read about adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome and paleo diet.
- do at least 30 minutes of light aerobic exercise (walking is good) daily
- Try to find a doctor that knows more than "take that pill" ((s)he should understand what adrenal fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome are).
Hope this helps!
