How to learn to skate
"I loved learning to skate my own way"
How I did it: I was always in (what the fickle minded believe) the 'greebo' clan in school, so i instantly was interested in the skateboard scene be default, but as school slowly went on and it ended, i found myself skating hard and different to what the other people were doing. I can't do 360 flips, kickflips, 540 back heelflips and all that jazz, but i love carving, grinding and bonelessing all over the place, 360 variants and switching. Some people may say 'Old school' or 'Wheres the tech?' but i like to skate how i want, i never get frustrated, because i'm just riding the pavement how i want to! It took me a few years to get were i am now and as you can tell, i skate fun, not the sponsors man!
Lessons & tips:
- Learn to roll first before getting stuck in to the flips.
- If you don't feel you want to learn all the tech and just want to ride, don't get bullied into going down a different path!
- A mini is a great way to get dropping in.
- Learn to brake before you bomb a hill!
- Wear a helmet when you first get started, you will drop.
- Go to skate parks or generally skate spots around your town.
- Get a crew together and skate.
Resources:
