How to get a tattoo
How I did it: I had been thinking of getting a tattoo for a while, and I finally came up with the design I wanted. But it took me until last week to finally get up the courage to do it.
My boyfriend decided he wanted a new tattoo (he already had four), so we researched the best shops in town & opted for Timeless Tattoo.
While he was getting his done, I decided I would just do it. So I drew a sketch of what I wanted & his tattoo artist made it bigger & better. It looked exactly like what I had pictured in my mind.
A few minutes later I was laying on the table, clutching my boyfriend's hand. It only took about twenty minutes, and I'd say only about three of those minutes were really terrible pain, when he was working on the upper part of my tat, near my ribs. The rest was cake. By the end of it, I had let go of his hand, and we were all chit-chatting.
I felt so accomplished & proud of myself afterward. I definitely felt what I've always heard about: once you get one, you want more. It's been almost a week now, and it's healing nicely. I can't wait till it's completely settled in. I'm looking to get the same tat but on the other side now.
Lessons & tips:
- Make sure the design is exactly how & where you want it. I had my tattoo artist place the design a couple of times to make sure it was just how I wanted it.
- If you get a tattoo on a body part that moves a lot, like I did on my waist, be prepared for it to be almost more uncomfortable than getting the tat itself. Until it heals, it's going to hurt to stretch or lay down.
Resources:
- My boyfriend (who now has 5 tattoos).
- Local area chat rooms, discussion boards, & newspapers - I did a lot of research finding out what tattoo shop & artists the people in my city trust.
