How to learn Dvorak
How I did it: It took me about 2 months to touchtyping. I tried various ways, but never really the standard training programs! I used to put a wallpaper of the keyboard layout on my desktop, but only for the initial references. However hard you may feel at the beginning, the comfort will start to grow on you quite nicely. There will be difficulties, and I struggled quite a bit trying to type in my essays; but by the time I was to face my dissertation, every stroke was like a breezy :)
The only drawback is that I cannot touchtype Qwerty now. I need to relearn it if I find it necessary somehow. So far I have not seen that necessity.
Lessons & tips: Don't give up! Just use your standard keyboard and type away! Keep reminding yourself how comfortable you feel with this new layout, and you will be convinced soon enough!
Resources: Go to dvzine. They have a nice bunch of useful stuff including keyboard mapping apps to turn your regular keyboard into a Dvorak.
