How I did it: Went to Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai. Very strange land in some ways...lots of smog, lots of people. People were VERY kind...genuinely kind. Food...not so good to me. Sites are amazing, interesting. I cried on the Great Wall...very emotional...you realize you are so far from home! Met people there who had never met a foreigner. HIGHLY recommend riding BUSINESS CLASS if you can on the airplane...got an upgrade from coach to business class for only $650 the day of the flight and got 6.5 hours of sleep on the way there. On the way back...road in coach...slept 1.5 hours...arrghh...not so fun since it is a 17 hour flight. Also highly recommend hiring a tour guide for an extended trip. Language is an issue...
