How to get out of debt
How I did it: I've never been in serious debt. Meaning, I've never owed more than $2,000 at one time. Because of this, though, I've learned of many little ways to cutback in order to save the money I needed for my bills.
Lessons & tips: Gas is terrible on the budget, so if you need a few things and the store is within walking distance, then walk, the money you save on gas adds up, and this is a healthy thing to do. Quit smoking, cut back on drinking, cut out the soda and the fast food, these are healthy things that help your budget. And trust me, the money definitely adds up.
I have had problems with impulse buying quite a bit, so if I'm going to the store, I don't bring my credit cards or debit cards if I even think I might be tempted. I'll only bring what I know I'll need in cash so I don't over spend.
This is a biggie, I think, as well: everyone needs their coffee in the morning before work. Don't go to a cafe or a coffee shop, make your coffee at home, it is so much cheaper and has less calories then the sugar-laden mocha's.
If you really sit down and think about where all your money goes, you'll find there are a dozen things you shell out for that you really don't need. It can be tough when you start cutting out the things you enjoy, but it's a big reward to be free of debt.
Resources: Bank accounts. Save your money. I can't tell you how many times I was set back because of emergencies or being laid off, etc.
