How to hike up a mountain.
"A breath of fresh air! Literally!"
How I did it: My boyfriend lives in North Carolina about four hours from the Smoky mountains. He also knows everything there is to know about the outdoors. I asked him to take me camping in the mountains.
I have always wanted to spend time camping and backpacking. Now the time finally came!!!
We figured out what all we would need. He had the supplies, such as a tent, sleeping bags, etc. We packed and we went for it! I feel it's very important to be in decent physical shape. We traveled to Pisgah National Forest, along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We went on the trail called Graveyard Fields Trail. The mountain we went up was about 5,000 feet high. We went almost to the peak. We found a nice spot for a campsite and made camp. =) The next morning, we hiked down. The view was incredible!!!!! We also saw a couple of waterfalls! Amazing! I can't wait to go again.
Lessons & tips: It is very important for you to be in at least decent physical condition. If you are going to be backpacking, you really should train first. I didn't train and I admit, it was hard. I do work out at the gym regularly though, and I know that helped!
Research where you want to go and be sure you are prepared. Read about what you will need. You may need to pack a lunch, snacks, plenty of water, bug repellant, etc. Bring a hat and sunglasses as well. Don't forget your camera!
Enjoy yourself!!!
