How to travel to New York by bus
"Being on a bus for more than 24 hours, going anywhere, will be hard on your back and knees."
How I did it: When you travel by bus these days, expect the unexpected. Having a good attitude will help you endure anything. Stay positive and be calm and courteous to those around you. Also, a little preparation never hurts.
Lessons & tips:
Things to bring to help you survive a long bus trip:
-Small pillow and/or blanket
-Water
-Cereal bars or some other nutritious snack
-Books that you've been meaning to read (I read 5 total)
-A good mp3 player
-Cell phone
-Batteries or chargers
-Chewing gum
-Money - small bills and quarters for vending machines
-Lip balm
-Hand sanitizer
-Roll of toilet paper
-Baby wipes
-Sun glasses
-Some plastic shopping bags (multitude of uses)
-Pain medication
Some other tips:
-Try to use the restroom at the bus station each chance you get. They're usually cleaner than the facility on the coach.
-Walk around and stretch your legs on layovers. This will prevent blood clots from forming in your legs as well as alleviate the stress on your body's joints and muscles.
-Tie a brightly colored bandana to the strap of your luggage. This makes it easier to locate/identify your stuff between bus transfers.
-Pack light.
