How to beat my depression

Stephen Being in love is the greatest feeling on earth

Thanks for sharing....

...your story. I am very glad you recognized that something was wrong and confronted it instead of letting it keep controlling you. I know with problems I had in my past too, my parents refused to acknowledge there was any problems because basically they were selfish and by admitting they were wrong, would have to live with the guilt that they did something that hurt their children. To this day my mother and dad can’t discuss or accept it. It’s a real shame that this happens in so many families still. I hope that your experience can help someone else who feels their situation is hopeless and you can give back and save another life. Pay it forward.

Thank you

...for your kind words. I agree! It’s so disheartening to read, hear and see that so many people are experiencing/experienced the same in their families. I’ll pass my experience on to others, everyone should do so.

I highly doubt that my parents will ever be able to get their heads around this one. And that’s the saddest thing, really.

If I ever have children, I will do my best to preserve them from any harm. I won’t make them feel responsible for things that I have done wrong. This I promise to myself.

What medication helped you?

Thanks for sharing your story. Your story actually sounds a lot like mine. I’ve been having trouble functioning in school for a long time now and still can’t figure out why. At first, the psychiatrist I saw at school didn’t think I was depressed so he didn’t prescribe me any medication, and I was left to struggle and figure it out on my own for a long time but the situation never really improved. Just last year, I heard that the medication Wellbutrin is really good for fatigue and concentration, so I saw another doctor and tried Wellbutrin for a few months. At first I thought it was helping a little, but then I realized that I wasn’t really that much better because I was only able to take one course per semester. Now I’m about to start school again, and I’m feeling desperate because I feel like I’m not much better than I was last year. I know that all medications take a while to work and that everybody’s different, but I’m just curious to know that what medication, if any, eventually helped you cope and function better at school? I just really want to be functional with schoolwork and feel motivated again. Sometimes I do wonder if it’s just me, if it’s just because I’m weak. If you could give me some feedback about what you know about medications, I’d appreciate it very much. I’m thinking of going to see the school psychiatrist again soon and tell him that Wellbutrin’s not really working for me and ask him to let me try some other medications. That’s why I’d like to learn more about other antidepressant medications. Like you had said, often it’s difficult to let someone properly diagnose you, because you only have so much time to explain yourself, and sometimes you don’t know how to properly explain yourself and what exactly it is that you’re struggling with. Thanks again.

Hello there,

I was convinced I could make it without meds, so I simply refused to take them. And, eventually, I got better without them. Yet, there are many people who simply can’t cope with depression without taking medication and that’s perfectly OK. However, I’m afraid to tell you I don’t know a lot about it. I wish I could help you, though.

I guess you should see someone else than your school psychiatrist. It’s just my intuition but maybe that other person could help you and tell you a lot more about antidepressants, how they influence your life, schoolwork, behaviour etc… Maybe even prescribe you something else than Wellbutrin but – most importantly – properly diagnose you.

I hope I could help you a wee bit,
Take care

How did you get the motivation back to finish school?

Hi,

I was just wondering if you could give me some tips about I might be able to find the strength and motivation back to finish school. Right now I'm struggling in school, and I find that after having been stuck in a negative pattern to skip classes, I'm having trouble getting out of it and I feel like I'm going nowhere. Was it just discipline, or are there other things that you could do to help you become motivated for school and stay on track? If you could please give me some tips about how I might be able to get myself back on track with school, I would appreciate it a lot. Thank you very much.

Look for a counselor or some other professional who might be able to help you find a way out. Life is overwhelming. When more comes at you than you can cope with then it is only human to feel like giving up. Depression makes us want to isolate ourselves from sources of hope. Hope is out there. Don’t give up on school please. Education is your way out of poverty and a more difficult life. Don’t allow depression to whisper discouragement in your ear until you give up. You are worth the fight for a better life.

Thank you

This was the best “How To” for beating depression that I’ve ever read…

I feel what you said about respecting yourself is something that we all forget..

I really liked this quote:
Some people, even those who are pretty close to you, may react harshly because they think they’re responsible for you being depressive. Especially family members won’t know how to cope with it and may ask you what they did to you. Don’t let anyone tell you these things! You don’t need to explain your condition! You need to understand it all yourself first.

Thanks again!!!

Aw, thank you!
