How to publish an article
How I did it: I wrote what wanted to be written, what I thought I had to offer, then got the Writer's Market and found the contact information for publications that seemed to be a good fit for what I was writing. I sent off my articles, was contacted by the publishers, and that was that. One was published soon after acceptance, another I had to wait a few years to see it in print after acceptance, but it ended up in a book as well.
Lessons & tips: If I planned to keep writing articles, I think I would eventually try to make a portfolio to send with queries, but my big goal is to try my hand at writing a novel (or a nonfiction book, but I'm not really an expert at anything)...and right now I don't have time for both.
