How to read Anna Karenina
How I did it: Basically I just borrowed the book from the public library. We have it in two books, each one has approximately 500 pages. I had lots of time, considering I was on my vacation so I read it in just four days. Try not to give up. The story itself is amazing: the whole twisted relationship between Anna and Vronsky is deeply absorbing. But the whole concept of describing what is happening over five or six pages can seem rather tiresome. For example, Tolstoy uses six pages just to describe Levin's work in field. If you're a person that finds that fascinating, okay - but I'm not. But overall, this book is a masterpiece and is very much worth reading.
Lessons & tips:
- Most important tip: don't give up!
- Read it slow: there are lots of characters and it can get confusing, especially in the beginning!
- Have fun!
