Very motivating
My sister is going through a similar thing at the moment, she loves her current role, but it isn’t quite in the sector she dreams of.
I’ll get her to read this :)
How I did it: Having moved into the education sector in a non-teaching role, I realised that teaching was really what I wanted to do. I investigated all my options and went for a work-based route where I worked as an unqualified teacher and trained on the job.
Places were very competitive on this scheme and when I first applied I was turned down. I realised I needed more experience. I had to bite the bullet and change jobs. Becoming a classroom assistant for a term was great for my career path, but hellish on the finances so it meant I had to move back to my parents' to afford it. That was tough, but the end goal has made it worth it.
On my second application I was accepted and spent a year training. I secured my first teaching post last September and I love everything about my new role... even the paperwork and especially the students!
Lessons & tips: Believe in yourself: it is never to late to change career path.
