How to go on a road trip to Lunenburg & Mahone Bay.
How I did it: I'd been to Lunenburg (and therefore had driven through Mahone Bay) briefly for a work party several years ago and always wanted to go back for a real visit.
But it was 2 summers ago that the desire really set in. I had decided I wanted to gather some friends for the road trip as my birthday celebration in August 2007. Not having a car myself, I put the idea out there, and offered alternatives if we couldn't make the transportation work. A bunch of my friends went on a similar road trip 2 weeks before my b-day while I was out of town, so my b-day idea kind of tanked.
Then the following summer a friend and I had talked about doing a day trip to Lunenburg, but we ended up taking his mom's car instead of mine so he drove. And he didn't drive to Lunenburg :S Even though the day didn't go as planned, it was an excellent road trip of course.
This year the same friend and I ended up going on an overnight camping trip, and I finally got to spend some time in both Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, as well at visit The Ovens. We stayed in a slumber hut at LaHave River Campground. Great road trip!
