How I did it: I have a list of about thirty ideas for apps. I picked what I thought would be a simple one for my first app.
Lessons & tips: I was away when the app went live in the store. I should have set my release date to have been when I was around, so my app could have been on the 'New releases page'.

I was wondering, did the classes on iTunes U help?
I’m coming from an almost zero-coding-experience background. The closest thing I’ve done to coding, was creating webpages using Sandbox type interfaces, and editing code for tweaking purposes.
And if you don’t mind me asking, did you hire a programmer to do most of the coding, or did you hire a programmer to just fix up / edit the code that you wrote for the app?
The Stamford course assumes you have a knowledge of C programming, and some references are made to Java. Without any programming knowledge, I don’t think the courses would be too useful, other than to understand the major features of the platform.
I had a programmer write the core of the platform, unfortunately, there were subtle bugs which she could not find, and I had to spend hours trying to fix. I ended up having to learn as much as I would to write the app from scratch, but did save some time coding.
