How to get a rook piercing
How I did it: I'd seen rook piercings on the internet, and I didn't really think much to them, maybe because it looked quite painful to me. Then I seen an old friend who'd had it done, and in the flesh it looked so unique and cute, I decided I was definitely going to get that done, I asked her if it hurt and her reply was it never hurt really, just the healing part was most uncomfortable. I know I have a high pain tolerance so I put it into plan to one day have it done. I was currently healing another cartilage piercing so I put it off, got carried away in life, getting a new job etc, and had almost forgot about it. Then on a spare of the moment thing, I got my tragus done (at a salon), and wasn't happy with just the one so I went to my piecer, as I was waiting, I saw a picture of the rook, and after that I had the idea to get it done, and not just keep putting it off. So yesterday I went and had it done, my piecer warned me that it might hurt a lot because of the thickness. Well he did it freehand, and all I know he was cleaning my ear with an alcohol swab, then I felt a strange sensation, and my face flushed a bit, I felt a pushing on my ear and it was done!! I couldn't believe how quick it really was.
Lessons & tips: It stings a bit afterwards, it felt really hot and it was very red, similar feeling to a tragus piercing really. I could sleep on it which was good. Its not even been there for 24 hours yet, but I am having no pain or swelling really. I hope it stays happy like it is now, because I have heard they can be quite cranky little piercings. I'd recommend getting a bioplast barbell as I've heard good reviews, plus I have bioplast jewellery in my rook and I have no problems.. Maybe its the luck of the draw, but it certainly is doing fine, painless, and not swollen.
Resources: I use sea salt spray to boost the healing process, H2Ocean is good, and I am using standard ear piercing spray that was given to me to use on the tragus, and that is made by a company called Protat. At the moment I have not cleaned it, just used the sea salt spray as it makes it irritated if I touch it, so tomorrow I'll gently clean it.
