How to try flavor tripping
How I did it: My friends invited a bunch of folks to their house, and everyone brought a dish to share for a reguar potluck and a 'freaky' sour or bitter thing to try. We ate normal food first, to give our tummies a shield against the wierdness. Then we took the tablets and started trying wierd stuff.
I started, cautiously, with a piece of pineapple. It was the ripest,
sweetest piece of pineapple I've ever had. On to stranger things:
slices of lemon and lime were sweet and tasty, like lemon and limeade.
Cheap tequila with a bite of lime was like a tiny mini margarita in my
mouth! Goat cheese was sweet and tasty, almost like vanilla frosting
with a slight earthy aftertaste (that'd be the goat), mozzarella didn't
taste like anything. Olives didn't change much. Carrots were like
pieces of sugar cane. Sour candy was too sweet. Fresh cherries were too
sweet, almost like Maraschino cherries. Apple cider vinegar was like
apple juice but there was still a bit of the vinegar 'bite' at the back
of the throat. I tried a super-dry Prosecco that was like carbonated
syrup...did not like it at all. Guinness Extra Stout was like a
super-sweet coffee or chocolate porter. Someone made a '3 Vinegar
Cheesecake' that was incredibly tasty. I ate a radish dipped in lemon
curd and it was lovely. Lots of fun. I'd like to do it again.
Lessons & tips: follow the directions on the tablets--the longer you let the tablet dissolve and the juices coat your tongue, the better 'trip' you'll have. Try some strange recipes, like 3 vinegar cheesecake, or sugarless cupcakes made using grapefruit or lemon juice with goat cheese 'icing'. Have fun!
