How I did it: I signed up with the New Zealand branch of Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF - check out their website for more information) and spent 6 months volunteering at Rongo Backpackers in Karamea where I've learned a ton of life skills such as caring for farm animals, hospitality training, growing food organically etc.
