How I did it: Just worked up the courage and booked the doctor's appointment. The hard part will be waiting 4-6 weeks for the results! I got it done for free under the government scheme.
Lessons & tips: I would recommend wearing a skirt, it'll make you feel less self-conscious. Take deep breaths and relax. Don't worry, doctors have seen it all before ;)
