Have you heard
of goodreads.com? Now that you have your list of books, you may find it a wonderful way to share that information with friends and family. Give it a look-see.
How I did it: The most practical reason for keeping a list of the books you've read or own is so that you don't buy them again, or if you just want to feel really impressed with yourself... Although, those both fit my book list, that is not how it came about...
When I was in college my family was planning a move and they said I had too many books to fit on the moving truck and I wouldn't notice if a box or two were left behind or "fell off the truck." While I knew they were kidding it made me think of tracking all the books I own. It only took me a few hours as I loading the books into boxes to create an Excel spreadsheet to track them. Now there are 543 books (and counting) listed in alphabetical order by the author or editors last name. I list whether the book is read, unread or reference, and whether I have the book at home or have lent it out to a friend. In special situations I list if the book was given to me by a friend or relative or was purchased on a certain occasion such as the birth of a relative.
Lessons & tips: There are no tips. If you are as anal as I am about things, you'll have your own ideas of how to list, classify and keep track of your books, particularly the ones you've read.
